After deep cleaning the print head and test printed on my 2 year old MX922, the printer shuts down without me physically turning it off, then when I try to turn back on, the copy light flashing blue and the LCD screen turned white with no messages, and the rest of the lights such as OK button etc were off, no wireless light on either. Is there any way to fix it myself without having my printer shipped to a service center? I live in Hawaii.

Re: MX922 scanner problem message: set the pc to start scanning

This has happened to me a few times.  Today I found a simple fix.

My printer is on a wired network on a switch.

First, I noticed that when this problem comes up, the lights on the port to which the printer is connected don't light up.

Ah-ha number one - something reset the printer to wireless.  Or something.

1) At the MX922, I go into menu button -> setup -> device settings -> LAN settings -> change wireless/wired and select wired.  When I do this, the lights on the switch at the MX922's port light up again.

2) At my PC, I go into the start menu -> Canon utilities -> IJ Network Scanner Selector EX -> click the button Scan-from-Operation-Panel Settings, click OK, then OK.

And now my PC shows up as an option in scan -> save/forward-> PC

I hope this helps others, it was reading posts here that helped me understand what is going on with my setup.

I suspect if your MX922 is on wireless, make sure that step 1 goes to wireless (or re-set it up) and the passwords necessary to access the wireless are entered in the MX922, then do step 2.

I'm at my witts end with this one, I keep getting a error or the printer continues to keep jamming everytime i try to print anything. It all comes out in one piece so there are no issues with it remaining inside just nothing will print.

Hi AjNeville,

Since you have verified that there are no jams or obstructions in the printer that may be causing the error, please perform at least three roller cleanings on the unit by following the steps provided here to ensure that the paper path is clear and that the paper can feed smoothly.

Should you continue to experience difficulty, the printer may require servcing; we ask that you please contact a Canon technical support representative here for further assistance. A representative will be happy to assist you free of charge.

I was getting the same error and tried un-install / re-install, which didn't work.  Then I turned of my work VPN to see if that was the issue and it was.  As soon as I disconnected the VPN it worked again, so the first couple of times I used the scanner I must not have been on my company's VPN.  Hope that helps!

I love my Canon MG2220 printer and haven't had a problem till now.  I've tried everything but it will still not register the new black ink cartiridge.  It started when I tried to replace the cartridge to early.  Replaced with the old one and allowed it to completely run out before replacing with the new one but printer will still not recognize the new black cartridge.  Replaced the color with no prob. Have cleaned black ink header with cotton swab, taken out both cartridges, turned off printer and restarted, took out both & unplugged printer, turned it back on & reentered cartridges and I've even hit and held the STOP/RESTART button for 10 seconds.  NOTHING!!!!     What it going ON!

Hi Marzaly,

This message may be resolved by resetting the unit. Please follow these steps:

1. With PIXMA MG2220 powered on, open the cover. The ink will move to the replacement position.

2. Lower the cartridge locking lever on the black ink cartridge.

3. Slide the cartridge out of the holder towards you.

4. Lower the cartridge locking lever on the color ink cartridge.

5. Slide the cartridge out of the holder towards you.

6. Once both cartridges are removed, unplug the power to the printer (without turning it off).

7. Reconnect the power cord.

8. Turn your PIXMA MG2220 on.

9. Open the cover. The carriage that holds the ink will move to the left hand side.

10. Make sure the orange cap is off of the bottom of the black cartridge.

11. Slide the black cartridge into the printer.

12. Lift the cartridge locking lever up, a clicking noise should be heard.

13. Make sure the orange cap is off of the bottom of the color cartridge.

14. Slide the color cartridge into the printer.

15. Lift the cartridge locking lever, a clicking noise should be heard.

Close the cover. The printer should make some noise for a few moments, and then return to standby.

If the message persists, to clear the low ink warning message, press and hold down the <STOP/RESET> button for ten seconds, and then release it. This will disable the ink detection until that cartridge has been replaced.

Hi countryrd419,

You can try performing a series of three roller cleanings on the unit to see if this will resolve the issue.  Performing a roller cleaning will ensure that the paper path is clear and that the paper can feed smoothly.   To do this, please follow these steps:

You need to prepare: three sheets of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper

  1. Make sure that the power is turned on.

  2. Open the Paper Output Tray gently, and open the Output Tray Extension.

  3. Select Roller cleaning.

    (1)Press the Setup button.

(2)Select Maintenance, and press the OK button.

(3)Select Roller cleaning, and press the OK button.

    figure:LCD

(4)Select Yes, and press the OK button.

    (5)
Select the paper source to clean (Rear tray or Cassette), and press the OK button.

  4. Clean the Paper Feed Roller without paper.

(1)Follow the message to remove paper in the paper source you selected in (5) of step 3.

    (2)
Press the OK button.  The Paper Feed Roller will rotate as it is cleaned.

  5. Clean the Paper Feed Roller with paper.

(1)Make sure that the Paper Feed Roller has stopped rotating, then follow the message to load three or more sheets of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper in the paper source you selected in (5) of step 3.

(2)Press the OK button.  The machine starts cleaning. The cleaning will be completed after the paper is ejected.

(3)When the completion message appears, press the OK button.  The screen will return to the Maintenance screen.

If the problem is not resolved after cleaning the Paper Feed Roller in the Rear Tray, turn off the power, disconnect the power plug, then wipe the Paper Feed Roller (A) located in the center inside the Rear Tray with a moistened cotton swab or the like.  Rotate the roller manually in the direction of the arrow (B) as you clean it.Do not touch the roller with your fingers; rotate it with the cotton swab.

Should you still experience difficulty, we ask that you please contact a Canon technical support representative here for further assistance. A representative will be happy to assist you free of charge.

Got in touch with Canon technical support, and after discussing the problem they agreed it was a non-working printer, sent me a new one, and I sent the non-working one back to them... the new one works fine... Jim B
